Construction of Bike Lanes on Barton Springs Road in Zilker Park set to Begin

For Immediate Release

June 30, 2008 

AUSTIN, TX – Construction will begin today on five foot bicycle lanes along both sides of Barton Springs Road within Zilker Park, beginning west of the Barton Creek Bridge, extending west under the Loop 1 overpass and terminating near Rollingwood Drive.

Downtown Bike Detours
CapMetro is improving the rail line on 4th Street from IH-35 to Trinity.  This project will temporarily shut down parts of 4th Street in phases.  The first phase begins this week (6/2/08).  4th Street will temporarily close down from Waller Creek east to IH-35.  Subsequent phases will temporarily close down more of 4th Street, and eventually Trinity to IH-35 will be temporarily closed for construction and improvements to the rail line.  This project is taking place for the purposes of preparing the line for the future commuter rail.  This CapMetro project should be completed by October 2008.
